Would You Wear It? Fall 2011 Trend: The Cummerbund

Alexander Wang Fall 2011 RTW

Looking at the Fall 2011 collections several trends have emerged. One of the strongest is menswear-inspired fashion for women and, as an extension of that, the cummerbund. What?! A cummerbund? I know, I had the same reaction, but the waist sash most often worn by men showed up on runways from New York to Paris. So the question remains: Would you wear it?

Off topic but how cute are the sparkly

Blake for Chanel, Kate in Burberry & Assorted Celeb Style

Here's a first look at Blake Lively's new ads for Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag, shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself. (This is the same red bag Blair carried in the last Gossip Girl episode). What do you think? Me, I think Blake is stunning and can wear just about everything but this image is kinda...boring. And Blake looks a little sickly. Agree or disagree?

I think Blake looks much better in this sparkly silver dress, alongside Lagerfeld and Florence Welch, at a Chanel party in her honour. [via

Kate Middleton appeared at a Shrove Tuesday event in Ireland yesterday wearing a ruffled Burberry trench coat paired with dark hose, shoes and bag. What do you think of the future Princess' look? I quite like the coat myself. Apparently one well wisher in the crowd asked Kate when she was going to stop losing weight and Middleton replied that it was "all part" of the wedding planning. [via]

Nicole Richie has been popping up all over fashion week.
I'm liking this outfit with the ruffled blouse, Rick Owens
leather jacket, Chanel shades and Celine bag. [via]

Pregnant Victoria Beckham looked great in all black at Heathrow. Rumor is Eva Longoria is planning a pink themed baby shower for the Beckhams. I'm kind of hoping she has a girl, I'd love to see just what that baby would wear! [via]

Not to many people would wear boots like this to travel,
but this is so Posh, isn't it?

Scarlett Johansson looks fab on the cover of Vogue China.
Why can't she look this good at awards shows?

And, finally, WTF is up with Tom Brady's hair?
I think he and Gisele make a very cute couple
but I am so confused about this hair situation. [via]

Like the Bieber wasn't bad enough now Brady
has resorted to headbands and scrunchies. [via]

Today is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
I'm giving up unhealthy food for the next 40 days.
If you participate what are you giving up?

Guest Post: Interiors Inspired by Chanel Haute Couture

Today I'm happy to introduce a guest post on Chanel Haute Couture and fashion-inspired interior design courtesy of Arcadian Home Decor, a website that sells a variety of decorative items and home accessories.

It’s no secret that some of each year’s interior design trends are pulled straight off the catwalk. Fabrics, colors and design elements get a second life when taken from fashion’s lead. Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2011 at Chanel was directed by Karl Lagerfeld, who gets part of his inspiration from today’s It Girls like Chanel spokesmodel Blake Lively from the hit show Gossip Girl.

We took our inspiration from Lagerfeld’s designs and found home interiors to match. For example, hand-beaded jackets are mirrored in home accent accessories like chandeliers and crystal interior pendants. See if you can’t find the interior design elements mimicking fashion in the images below.

Blush Pink and Crystals

The shimmering crystals of the Venetian mirrors and chandelier in the room below mimic the crystal effect of the hem and body of Lagerfeld’s dreamy creation above. The pale pink pillows give off a soft sheen not unlike that of the flowing skirt and neckline.

Chic Neutrals and Pale Pastels

The tailored beige velvet sofa when paired with the feminine tufted chairs is reminiscent of the boxy pink sweater and flouncy beige skirt in the image above. The ensemble when paired with black flats takes on the lines of the black stripes in the beige curtains and the black accents in the room below.

The combination of feminine and tailored is evident in the style of Karl Lagerfeld’s textured suit, which is reflected in the interior design of the room below. The tufted boxy accent chair with straight legs is similar to the geometric lines of the suit and its big buttons. The suit’s woven fabric can be seen in the grayish beige carpet with raised design, while the chandelier takes a hint from the flirty belt and buckle at the model’s waist.

Chanel Pre-Fall 2011

I loved the laid-back opulence of Chanel's
Pre-Fall 2011 collection. Everything from
the colours to the flats were working for me.

I adore the headbands too and how Lagerfeld
paired all that embroidery and gilding
with simple pieces like thick knit sweaters.

What do you think?
